XALBADOR - The great poet; great Bertsulari
XalbadorUncontestably the greatest master in poetic improvisation was Fernando Aire that everyone called Xalbador. He was from the village of Urepel. His use of the Basque language was pure and his verses, simply classical. His words conveyed such deep rich thought. His book Odolaren mintzoa (Blood's Voice) is truly a monumental collection of his songs and life story.

Urepel is a village of 401 inhabitants in Benafaroa, in the Aldude valley about 20 km south of Saint-Etienne de Baigorry.
