Dear Members,

Happy New Year!!! Let's hope that 2003 will be a good year for the Kern County Basque Club and its members! A year filled with peace, happiness and health for everyone!

KCBC Mus Tournament
Reminder - Don't forget that this Saturday, January 25, 2003 is the KCBC Mus Tournament. Cost of the tournament will be $20, which includes lunch. All players must be KCBC members in order to participate. Let's try to beat last year's tournament. We had 32 teams to play and 14 new members. The tournament begins at 8:00 a.m. Hope to see you there! It should be a day filled with fun and competition! Hordago!!!!

2003 KCBC Elections
The nominations are in and now it's time for you to vote! Although only 70 ballots were returned, those of you who did vote nominated some enthusiastic club members. New ideas are always welcome!! Please take the time to show your support by voting for the new KCBC slate of Officers and Board of Directors for 2003. All ballots must be returned by Monday, February 3, 2003 in order to be counted.

KCBC Membership Dinner & Dues
The KCBC Membership Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2003. Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. We will be catering the dinner again this year so it is very important that you make your reservations on time. All reservations need to be in by February 15, 2003. No exceptions!! Call Lourdes lturriria at 393-1886 or Marilou Onaindia at 831-2527. If you make reservations and find out that you won't be able to attend, please call and cancel. It's important for us to have an accurate count since we have to pay per reservation.

Enclosed you will find the annual membership renewal form. Please fill out the form with your name, birth date, and current address, e-mail and phone number and send it along with your dues in the enclosed envelope. Birth date information will help us to determine honorary members. E-mail addresses will make communication with our members easier. Renewal fees are $60 per couple, $30 for singles. If you know of anyone who would like to become a member of the Kern County Basque Club please give me a call at 831-2527 and I would be happy to mail him/her a membership application form. New membership dues are $110 per couple, $60 for singles. Don't put this off, mail in your dues today!!!!

Basque Dancing

Hey kids, it's time to pull out your espartinas!! Aupa Dantzariak!! Basque dance practice begins on Sunday, March 2, 2003. The schedule is as follows: C Group -11:00 to 11:45 a.m., B Group - 12:00 to 12:45 p.m., A Group - 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. If you have any questions, please call Marguerite Moore at 664-0384. Otherwise, we'll see you there!! Oh, be sure to wear shoes you can dance in!! No dress shoes or thongs please!!!

Adult dance practice will also begin on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. Newcomers are welcome! We need to start preparing for NABO Convention 2004 in Bakersfield.

Congratulations - New Baby
Congratulations to Patrick and Megan Etchebarne on their new little baby girl. Charlotte Marie Etchebarne was born on December 4, 2002 in Chino, California.

CSUB Basque Survey
By now, you have received your survey that is being conducted by CSUB Philosophy Department and headed by 2002 KCBC Scholarship Recipient and member Philippe Duhart. Please take the time to complete the survey so we can learn more about the Basques of Kern County. Thank you!!

KCBC keeps up with technology
The Kern County Basque Club has just acquired their own website: www.kcbasqueclub.com Check it out!!!! Our web designer is Pierre lgoa. KCBC is look 'in good!!!

KCBC Klika
Anyone interested in joining the KCBC Klika please call Michelle lturriria at 393-1886. All ages are welcome and no musical experience is required. Michelle will be willing to teach you how to play! All we need from you is a commitment. Join today so you'll be ready to blow, blow, blow for NABO 2004. Aupa mutikoak eta neskak!!!!

NABO News Gaztemundu
Gaztemundu applications are due by mid February 2003. Please refer to www.basqueclub.com for more information. This annual program gathers Basque youth (ages 20-45) from all over the world to study Basque culture while in Euskal Herria. NABO would like the U.S. represented so now’s your chance to visit the old country, learn about your heritage and have fun!! Check it out!

KCBC Reverse Drawing
Need some quick cash? Well here's a chance to win $5,000! All you need to do is buy a KCBC reverse drawing ticket for $50. This includes dinner for one person. Tickets will be on sale at all upcoming club functions or you can call me at 831-2527 for a ticket. The reverse drawing will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the clubhouse and will benefit the improvement fund. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. Dinner/drawing begins at 7:00 p.m. Additional dinners tickets will be available at the door or husband you can be sweet and buy your spouse a reverse drawing ticket too!! We are counting on your support!!

NABO Convention 2004
NABO Convention 2004 will be held in Bakersfield. We need to get started now in preparing for this big event. If you have some good ideas or you are interested in getting involved please call Marilou Onaindia at 831-2527. Let's make NABO 2004 the BEST!!! AUPA BAKERSFIELD BASCOS!!!
