Dear Members,

I’d like to start out by wishing you all a Happy New Year! I hope Santa was good to you! If not, now is the time to change some of your naughty ways and make some New Year’s resolutions so that 2004 will be the best year ever!

I thought everyone enjoyed the Christmas party at the Basque Club. The day started off with a beautiful Basque Mass celebrated by Father Tillous, accompanied by the choir and Klika! It was nice seeing people spend the whole day together enjoying good food, good company, good pala games, good mus, good chestnuts and cider and one good-looking Santa Claus!! Speaking of Santa, I’ve got a ho ho lot of stuff to tell you about so let’s get started.

2004-2005 Elections
It’s time to elect new Officers and Board of Directors again. Now’s your chance to get on the Board! All you need is five votes to get nominated. All nomination ballots must be returned by Monday, January 12, 2004 in order to be counted. So don’t procrastinate, fill them out immediately and mail them today!!! To help you with the nominations, I have enclosed the 2003 KCBC Membership List. If any information on the list needs to be updated, please give me a call.

KCBC Mus Tournament
This year’s Mus Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2004. It will begin at 8:00 a.m. sharp! Cost of the tournament will be $30 per player, which includes lunch. You must be a member of the KCBC in order to play. Last year we had 34 teams. Let’s try for even a bigger tournament this year! If you like playing Mus, get a partner and come join us. It will be fun! First and second place winners will go on to play in the 2004 NABO Mus Tournament, which will be held on June 5, 2004 in San Rafael hosted by Marin Sonoma Basque Club. The World Mus Championship will be held in Acapulco, Mexico. Good Luck to KCBC Mus Players!!!!

2004 Udaleku – Summer Camp
The 2004 Udaleku (summer camp) will be held in Boise, Idaho this year. The dates set for camp are July 18 thru August 1, 2004. This is a great opportunity for children to learn about their Basque heritage and make some long lasting friendships! Any children interested in attending camp should contact Kristie Onaindia at 831-2527.

KCBC Beautification Day
The next project the Board has taken on to beautify the clubhouse is to plant foliage on the fence (to cover up the trucking company and the beautiful surroundings of Union Avenue). The work schedule is as follows: Saturday, January 10, 2004 - We will be laying the irrigation. Saturday, January 17, 2004 - We will be planting. We need your help! We need lots of volunteers to complete this project. Come play in the dirt and have some fun!! We will get started at 7:00 a.m. President Larry Errea has promised to cook us one of his famous Basque breakfast/lunches!!! If you are a proud, strong, good-looking Basco, who loves your Basque club and want to be a good member and help, please call either Jesus Onaindia at 831-2527 or Andy Iturriria at 588-0858 by Wednesday, January 7, 2004. Cute Basquitas are welcomed too!! We are counting on everyone’s help! Let’s make the KCBC beautiful for NABO Convention 2004!

2004 NABO Meeting
The next 2004 NABO Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. It is important that all committee chairpersons attend. The KCBC Board of Directors’ regular business meeting has been changed to the second Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. to allow you time to submit your nomination ballots.

Picnic Table Update
In the last newsletter I had told you that I was placing an order for 30 picnic tables. Members had purchased twenty-eight of those tables and two tables were still available to buy if anyone was interested. Guess what? I had seven people to call me (the day the newsletter came out) who were interested in purchasing one of the two tables. I was able to add five more tables to our order, making a total of 35-picnic table. WOW!!! Isn’t that wonderful! This is a value of $15,740 and we owe it all to the following members for their help and support:
